We had a picnic to go to today and I wore a particular pair of sandals because I thought a vintage partner in crime - Holly - was going to be there. I wanted her to see me wearing them - because these were her Mom's.
I saw both pairs in her space at the Loyalty Red Barn Tag Sale - yes there were two different pairs - the other ones are white - lucky me!! And of course I had to have both pairs.
Oh anyway... so, I picked my outfit by starting with these fabulous sandals.
I was recently in New York City and just down the street from the job I was working on is the Lexington Saree Palace. Suffice it to say, I did not stop with the tunic above...
I know, my daughter would say "But mom, it's not the same color purple - The sandals have more blue in them and the tunic has more red" - I hear ya honey - but do you see me with my fingers in my ears - "lalallalala I can't HEAR you". Besides - the two were separated by a pair of off white linen pants. So. There.
Of course then I had to accessorize - out comes my new pile of arm candy - some of my latest bracelet designs AKA Bohemian Bling.
L to R: Rhinestone bracelet made with silk Sari yarn, Serene Buddha stretch bracelet is made with amazonite beads, purple quartz toggle bracelet with a few small charms - yes that top charm does say "I love shoes". The Sari yarn bracelet ends with two heavy silver beads and closes by twisting around the opposite braided strand. I am having a blast making all of these and adding styles as I go.
I found the Sari yarn in an antique mall and I could not pass it up - it was just too gorgeous!
The beauty about these bracelets is that you can just keep adding more.
On my other wrist - L to R: dark pink vintage rhinestone bracelet I found at It's Bazaar, a linen cord and silver nugget bracelet - thrifting in NYC, and the braided curb chain/Sari silk bracelet, Pier One.
The food and company at the picnic was great - my husband said that the grabber was the invite - Pig Roast and Meatfest - a sure way to get guys to come. Unfortunately Holly couldn't make it - but I wanted her to see - that sometimes it really is all about the shoes!
Sweet!
until later, xo, Liz
At Christmas time last year I had a woman contact me on Etsy. She had a lot of items to sell and wanted to know how difficult it was to set up shop. I gave her the entire rundown - the selling is very easy. But then I realized - the only reason the back end of it - shipping - is easy for me - is because I have some space to have all those miscellaneous boxes and recycled materials to send things off with. For someone in a smaller space - this would be very difficult and perhaps expensive.
Margaret contacted me again in June - perhaps I could buy outright/consign/sell her items for her. I replied with an enthusiastic YES! My time frame was not her time frame however. Summers for me are usually reserved for re-finding my workroom. This summer (come hell or high water) was going to be dedicated to organizing my shop. I needed more shelves, and I needed to better organize all that I had listed in my Etsy shops. These items are only the tip of the iceberg.
I told Margaret that I would be happy to help - but my thought was pricing and getting everything ready for October and the Town Wide Tag Sale in Purcellville. She wanted things gone sooner than that. Thinking, thinking... I mentioned that she should go see Rebecca and Bill up at It's Bazaar in Purcellville. They would probably buy some items outright - as well as consign things for her.
This is exactly what she did. Why am I showing you my chairs? Because she saw these in my space up at It's Bazaar and had a pair that she offered to me. They were currently being shown on Craig's List. I LOVED them, but I also had enough projects in the queue.
My brain was still working in June - and I private messaged Miss Mustard Seed on Facebook. I knew she would love them too. She has a space at Lucketts and moves more furniture through her space in a month than I do. The resounding answer was YES!!! So I convoed Margaret back and told her to remove the listing from Craig's list, that MMS wanted them.
However - I was not prepared for the response!
She was over the moon that Marion might like them - let alone want them. Well let me tell you - Now she is over the moon and back again - http://missmustardseed.com/2012/08/controlling-the-chaos/
And to top it off - Margaret also told me she had some checks waiting for her up at It's Bazaar.
All of this came about because I took a few minutes to answer some questions. In the process I made some one wildly happy. That's just makes me smile :)
Love and Peace, Liz
I have spent the last 2 weeks off and on - mostly on... creating this 'collection'. I started with the dictionary page eggs (apologizing to any and all book lovers out there who are offended - the dictionary had some water damage and was most likely headed for the dumpster if not purchased by me - please forgive). The collection moved on to other eggs - existing ones I had in great colors, others that had been crackle finished a while ago, and more that I painted (gasp!) AQUA.
Only the beginning of the eggs. There are several dozen now. For ease of sale they will be packaged in cello bags with white or kraft shred. I didn't relish little price stickers all over my lovelies.
That brought me to the realization I had some napkins that I had never opened - because they were too pretty to use. And so I started on journals (only 2 of these so far). One of them is shown on the far left. It has two sections inside - one with white paper and one with kraft paper. These are small - in that they only have about 12 double sided pages in them.
Wood and paper mache boxes - hand painted and decoupaged - found objects, topiary. As you can see, the recurring image of the napkin in various permutations shows up in a number of places.
More boxes, topiary, and an altered 'HOME' sign.
Metal stars that were rust colored have become canvases for paint as well as more dictionary page decoupage.
Some of the collection is going with me up to It's Bazaar this morning. The balance will be getting listed in bittersweetdesign - my handmade Etsy shop.
Hope you enjoyed seeing what I have been up to. Off to packaging and pricing!
Love, Liz
